CFL Combine Kicker

Saturday 25th January saw the Thrashers own, Will Elgeti (Kicker) take part in an invite only CFL Combine, pushing hard for an invite to Toronto and ultimately the CFL International Draft 2020.

After the event, we spoke to Will who said, “For me personally the day went very well. I’ve been working closely with the Thrasher coaches and players to prepare for the combine.
Our WR Chris Evans at the Thrashers is a Personal trainer who I have been working with 5 days a week in the lead up to this weekend. Having his help managed to shave up to half a second off my drill times and gave me my best scores to date at the combine.
I’ve also been working with a number of players and Head Coach Steve Rains at the local university Solent Redhawks training sessions to continue to kick in the lead up to this weekend.
The weekend went well, working with the CFL and players from all over Europe and the UK was a great experience, and being put in a professional setting was a really test.
Making it to the next stage and attending the CFL combine in Toronto would be a huge achievement personally but also would be a great achievement for the Thrashers. We’ve all worked hard over the last few years and even though I’m the player having this opportunity I honestly wouldn’t be in this position without every member of this team. The support I’ve had in the lead up and over this weekend has been amazing and the reason I love being a part of the club.
Having an opportunity to showcase my skills and put the Thrashers on a Global map is a privilege and I hope my journey continues.”
Head Coach Steve Rains said, “We were absolutely delighted to see Will invited to the CFL Combine in Bristol. The invite is testimony to the hard work Will has put in to bring his kicking up to that standard and also reflects the hard work the club has put in to raise the profile of the Thrashers and our players. At the try out Will gave himself the best possible chance of progressing on to the Toronto combine by nailing a huge 58yd Field Goal kick - obviously it now depends on how many kickers are competing and exactly what the teams are looking for - but he certainly made an impression. If he gets an invite to Toronto it will be a fantastic opportunity for Will and another significant boost to the Thrasher profile. The CFL combine is a great opportunity for UK Football and hopefully it will lead to more player opportunities going forward and other partnership benefits for the whole of the UK Football community".

All of us at the Thrashers, wish Will all the very best and we hope, alongside Will and his Family, that he gets the call he so deserves to progress his career!
