Thrashers reach SFC1 Playoffs!

The Solent Thrashers reach the Playoffs for the 4th time in the past 5 years with a dominating win over South Wales Warriors.

The Thrashers notched up 41 points as the Warriors sought their first win over the Thrashers as well as their first win in 2017.

The attention now turns to the London Olympians on Sunday looking to progress to the Southern Championship Final.

Game Day Report

South Wales Warriors 16 – Solent Thrashers 41

The Thrashers only needed to avoid defeat going into the game to secure their place in the play-offs and showed their intent straight away when RB Adam Bowley returned the opening kick-off to the Warriors 18-yard-line.

Within four plays, RB Bowley slipped into the end zone from one yard out to open the scoring. The extra point was converted by Kicker Williams.

After an initial drive by the Warrior, who were still seeking their first win of 2017, their running back rushed for two first downs. The Warriors gambled on 4 & 5, but fumbled the snap ending in a turnover on downs inside the Thrashers half.

Thrashers kept up the pressure when QB Brad Sawyers connected with WR Greenfield on a long pass completion to take the Thrashers to the Warriors one-yard-line.

FB Bloodworth appeared to of been stopped 1-yard short of the end zone, however kept his feet moving to fall across the goal line. Kicker, Williams’ conversion, though, hit the post.

The Warriors QB connected with their WR for a 32-yard gain on third down. The attack stalled and possession once again was turned over on downs after a failed 4th down attempt.

Thrashers finished the first-half scoring with a field goal after finding themselves on 4 & 28 after a poor snap placed their punter under pressure.

Tempers started to threaten to flare over among the Warriors defenders as they lost their discipline and their cool and penalties marched the Thrashers further down field.  Again, RB Bowley took the Thrashers to the Warriors one-yard line but despite 2nd and 3rd downs - the Thrashers settled for a short-range field goal converted by Kicker Williams and ended the half 16-0.

The Thrashers enjoyed an even better start to the second half when KR Andrew Kidd took the reception all the way for a touchdown, even after pulling his hamstring and limping for the last 20 yards. Kicker Williams converted the extra point.

The Warriors soon struck back, when the Thrashers were forced to punt within their own 10 yards. Warrior receiver took the short kick back to the Thrashers’ 25-yard-line. Warriors receiver pulled a nine-yard pass over his shoulder for their first touchdown since losing at Solent three games earlier. The Warriors added the two-point conversion pass.

The Warriors tried to keep their momentum going by attempting an onside kick but Solent recovered for their offense to start at the Warriors 40-yard-line.

A face mask penalty and a bullet pass to WR Greenfield took the Thrashers again to the one-yard-line from where the QB sneaked over for the fourth touchdown to open the fourth quarter. The two-point conversion was stopped.

The Warriors QB, connected with two receivers for consecutive first downs. Warriors QB also sprinted for a third first down before throwing a 30-yard touchdown pass. The two-point conversion pass was converted and brought the score to 16-29.

The Warriors restarted play with an onside kick which was recovered by the Thrasher, and QB Sawyers immediately hit WR Greenfield with a 20-yard touchdown pass but the Thrashers failed to add the extra two to leave the score at 16-35.

After a quick interception by LB Ramsay Linton, this killed off any remaining threat from the Warriors and on the ensuing drive RB Davies took over. Davies carried his team downfield and capped the drive with a five-yard TD run. However, the 3rd two-point conversion attempt was stopped short.
